Scene 1: After the Campfire
Scene opens on a campfire with three cubs warming themselves. Each has a blanket over them and are propped up by a pillow.

Cub Leader Sez: (Off stage voice) Ok everyone inside their tents now and torches out in five minutes.
Cub 1: Well it's been a good day. It's a cool camp that's for sure!
Cub 2: I enjoyed the walk up here - it was so lovely walking through the bush.
Cub 1: And Campfire has been so much fun - I want to just stay here and watch the fire until it goes out.

Cub 3: Hey lets just do that!
Cub 2: I like to look into the fire and dream of all the things I could do in this world. I mean, we have been trained as Cub Scouts we could just about save the world!!!!
Cub 1 & 3: Don't be silly Billy!
Cub 1: No one is ever going to ask us to help them save anything.
Cub 2: Yes but maybe there is something in this big wide world which we could do - WHICH WE COULD DO THIS VERY NIGHT - to help someone.
Cub 3: What you mean do a good turn - bigger than all others that we've done today?
Cub 1: Actually I haven't done any today at all.
Cub 2: (not listening at all) Yeah why not - after all - we are ready to do it and willing - aren't we?
Cub 1: I 'spose so!
Cub 3: (loosing interest) Well all I'm ready to do right now is have a little rest - I'm going to close my eyes for a bit guys. Wake me up if anything exciting happens.

With that the lights dim out on this little scene.

Scene 2: Welcome to Oz
A spot light on OP side reveals a little girl in a blue dress with red shoes.

Dorothy: I can't imagine where my friends have gone. And right now too - when I need them to come and help to destroy the witch that is plaguing the Munchkins. She is just generally making our lives miserable. Oh there they are……. Come on you fella's wake up, you can't just sit around that campfire all night - not when you are needed to get rid of the witch.

The sleepy Cub Scouts awake to find themselves dressed as the Lion, the Tinman and the Scarecrow. Still looking in awe at themselves and each other - Dorothy walks right up to them.

Dorothy: Are you just going to sit there??????
Tinman: Talking to us lady?
Scarecrow: I think she knows us, Tinny.
Lion: Why do I feel like a thousand fleas are biting me behind the ear?
Dorothy: Enough! No more fooling around you three - there's work to be done…. The witch is causing havoc in the Emerald City and the muchkins need your help … coming?
Scarecrow: Gee she's bossier than sez!
Tinman: Guess so ... (starting to walk off with Dorothy)
Lion: Why is it I have this overwelming desire to run in the other direction

Dorothy looks behind her and the three are gradually starting to follow. She says to the audience ...

Dorothy: Well they said they wanted to save the world - what else could I do

Follow, follow, follow, follow, follow the yellow-brick road

You're off to see the Wizard, the Wonderful Wizard of Oz
You'll hear he is a Whiz of a Wiz if ever a Wiz there was
If ever, oh ever, a Wiz there was the Wizard of Oz is one because
Because, because, because, because, because
Because of the wonderful things he does

You're off the see the wizard, the Wonderful Wizard of Oz
You're off to see, you're off to see the Wonderful Wizard of Oz

(Dorothy, Tinman, Scarecrow, Lion sing)

We're off to see the Wizard,
the Wonderful Wizard of Oz
We'll see he is a Whiz of a Wiz
if ever a Wiz there was
If ever, oh ever, a Wiz there was
the Wizard of Oz is one because
Because, because, because, because, because
Because of the wonderful things he does

We're off the see the wizard,
the Wonderful Wizard of Oz
We're off to see, we're off to see
the Wonderful Wizard of Oz

As the team of four leaves the stage P side the munchkins are still singing!

Scene 4: The Trouble with Witches
The spot hits the dark corner OP side where the Witch is now standing in the darkness.

Witch: Ha ha ha ha ha - they will never find me. They will never defeat me. They will never be rid of me. I will cause them trouble till the end of time. Over a cauldron - which she starts to stir with a big stick
Witch: Hubble bubble toil and trouble
Fires burn and cauldrons bubble.
Here's some trouble to Dorothy and her crew.
And I will have some new red shoes!
She will loose the hold she has.
And to the rest I will raz!
To the munchkins loose their heads.
Those puppets ner' again to sleep in their beds!
To the cub scouts and the world
I will cause such fiery hurl.
Hubble bubble, shave my stubble
To them all - I will cause trouble.

Enter Dorothy and the frightened three - clutching each other for fear!

Dorothy: What is it you do here witch???
Scarecrow: Gee I ran so fast I got the stitch!!!!!
Dorothy: Grab that bucket of glitter dust - pour it on her quick! Witch you will never again see light of day - for the last time - GO AWAY!
Lion: Take this you old bag!
Scarecrow: Go get em tiger!

With that the lion grabs the bucket and pours glitter all over the witch and her broth. With that a witchy dying scream and a flash of light - and the witch falls down deader than dead. Stiffer than stiff. Enter munchkins - singing Ding dong. Dorothy and crew drag off the witch OP side.

Ding-dong the witch is dead

Ding-dong the witch is dead
Which old witch? The wicked witch
Ding-dong the wicked witch is dead

Wake up you sleepyhead
Rub your eyes, get out of bed
Wake up the wicked witch is dead

She's gone where the goblins go
Below - below - below
Yo-ho, let's open up and sing and ring the bells out

Ding Dong' the merry-oh, sing it high, sing it low
Let them know the Wicked Witch is dead

Sing twice through. During the song enter again the foolsome four -they dance around linking arms in pairs happy with the joy of the witch gone at last.

Lion: Hmmmmm no idea where I got that courage - it was worse than seeing a rat at camp and I did it!
Tinman: Yeppers lion you are just the most bravest, most courageous - my six leader - my hero!
Scarecrow: Oh please you two - its hardly cool - we are stuck in these dreadful outfits in the strangest of places - with no hope of getting home
Lion: Keep your straw on SC you are giving me hayfever!
Dorothy: Look lets just settle down by the campfire folks and talk about this rationally.
Tinman: What do you mean Dorothy? Is there a way home? Like catching a frog and connecting with a rainbow or something? Look there he goes now……

With that Kermit pops up and hops across the puppet theatre - others don't even look while Tinman is pointing and gagging at the sudden sight of Kermit the frog.

Scarecrow: Please tinny - lets leave Sesame Street frogs and flying pigs out of this?
Tinman: You mean Miss Piggy is here too?
Dorothy: Enough! Look all you have to do is have a little dream about where you want to be and you are nearly half way there - just grab hold of all your dreams in life and they will be your destiny!
Lion: But how Dorothy? How do we sleep? I couldn't get to sleep now if I tried!
Dorothy: Just think of the Sandman - he will bring you a dream.

The light closes in on the now yawning Lion, Tinman and Scarecrow and they start to sing - Mr Sandman.

Mr Sandman

Mr Sandman
Please take us home
We promise we will no more will roam
We've helped the chick…
With witch destruction
We've followed every single
Cub instruction

Sandman
Turn this to a dream
Let us wake-up
At the campfire scene
We promise we will go to bed
Take us back
To Cub Camp instead!

Dorothy
You will be safe
We've knocked the ole witch
Right flat on her face
We did our best
To be good Cub Scouts
But right now we find that
We've got to get out

Please… (Dorothy gets up and hugs the cubs scouts goodbye - still singing she leaves)
Turn this to a dream
Let us wake-up
At the campfire scene
We promise we will go to bed
Make us back,
To Cub Scouts instead!

Blackout

Scene 5: Welcome back to reality!
From OP side comes Bishop's voice

Bishop: I can't believe it they are still next to the campfire

Lights come up to reveal Sez and Bishop standing there with top hats and tails on carrying canes and wearing white gloves.

Sez: No????? You are right bish - lets get em off to bed. With everything they've done today they will be exhausted. They'll never get up in the morning!
Bishop: Wake-up guys!!!! Welcome back!!!!!

The three now returned to being Cubs wake-up and looking at themselves unbelievingly that they have made it home - start hugging each other and shaking their hands…. Then they greet Sez and Bishop like long lost friends. Sez and Bish look at each other - kinda surprised at this sudden show of friendship and affection between cub scouts. No one actually notices that Sez and Bishop are wearing top hats and tails and carrying canes! Up comes music for Hello Cub Scouts (Hello Dolly)! This is sung by Sez and Bishop.

While the crowd cheers in rapturous applause the Cubs (all) including those who had had puppets (but without them now) stand in a row and sing Scout Hymn. Solo to start!

The Scout Hymn

(Solo) Now as I start upon my chosen way,
In all I do, my thoughts, my work, my play.
Grant as I promise, courage new for me,
To be the best, the best that I can be.

(All) Help me to keep my honour shining bright,
May I be loyal in the hardest fight,
Let me be able for my task, and then,
To earn a place among my fellow-men.

Open mine eyes to see the things as I should,
That I may do my daily turn of good,
Let me be ready, waiting for each need
To keep me clean in thought and word and deed.

So as I journey on my chosen way,
In all I do, my thought my work, my play,
Grant as I promise, courage new for me
To be the best, the BEST that I can be.

Curtain!
