01 January 1998 to 31 December 1998
This is the first time I have formally represented this Group as its Group Leader to an Annual General Meeting. I am honoured to be associated with the Clevedon Scout Group and hope that our mutual association will continue for many years to come.
The Group has come a long way in 12 months. I personally believe that what has been achieved here – would take most groups years to get under their belts however as a team of Leaders, Committee, Families and Cubs, we have worked hard to make something we can now call a Scout Group and that others can look upon as a show piece in Scouting.
I would like to dwell briefly on the some facts and figures from 1998…
Early in 1998 Elaine Balemi and Graham Bayley resigned from the Group after many many years hard work and enthusiasm.
The Pack stood at 7 Cubs in number with no leaders at the beginning of Term 2.
Bill Morrison, Jane James and myself worked hard to keep the pack going during that early time. During early Term 3 Sue Hedges Zone Cub Leader took the pack during my absence overseas.
August 1998 Nut Camp was held at Motu Moana with some of the most innovative and attractive Crafts made by the Cubs.
October 1998 USA Camp was held at Camp Sladdin with the best All American Food around!
December 1998 Explorers Camp was held at Camp Waherau, Kaiaua. This camp will be remembered for two things. Bryan Lawrence’s First Cub Camp and the most awesome game of Spotlight ever played by a Cub Pack.
We participated in the District Church Parade, Collecting for Plunket, A&P Show, April’s Angels, International Jamboree on the Internet, and an Awesome Christmas Party, and of COURSE our famous Dinner!
We had outings to McDonalds (Breakfast), Kids in Action, Ice Skating and Chatting on the Internet to Sez in Canada
At the close of 1998 we boasted an increase to 20 Cubs.
From the Committee and Leadership point of view….
A most successful series of Working Bees now means we know exactly what we have its condition and value and we have improved the standard of our building and equipment. There is no longer the fire risk of building material rubbish near and under our Scout Den. We have improved the Drainage, Electricity, Building Interior and Exterior.
We have a successful working Committee Section with a near full compliment of Executive. I would like to recognize the achievements of our outgoing Committee and welcome Jane James as our Committee Treasurer and Lynne Brannagan as our Committee Chairman. Your huge support has been tremendous. (I am personally very thankful for that).
Bryan Lawrence has joined us as a new Cub Leader. Bryan has recently been awarded the Queen’s Scout Honour for his achievements in Venturing. We are most fortunate to have had Bryan choose our Group as one which he would like to further his Scouting Experiences with.
Tony Francis has applied for a Warrant to join us as Scout Leader in May 1999. Again we are very fortunate to gain such an experienced and motivated Leader on our leadership team.
I have made a confirmation of my intention to remain as Group Leader by applying for a Group Leaders warrant for Clevedon Scout Group.
We have been fortunate to have had a huge team of supporters who have acted as Cooks, Transporters, Parent Helpers, Camp Leaders, Oven Scrubbers (joke) to name but a few. Thank you in particular to Graeme Olney, Jo McAllister and Robyn Driscole who are all in Scouting elsewhere but have never hesitated to assist if asked.
We have a successful Web Site on the Internet which shows our Great Scouting History since 1932 combined with our enthusiasm for Cubbing today.
We have formulated and documented our plans including a Budget, Equipment Purchase Plan, Equipment Status Record, Calendar of Events and Leader Training Plans.
So on to 1999, welcome into the Scouting Family if you are new to Scouting in the last year and thank you for continuing your friendship. Next year we will report on the huge numbers of new Scouting people who have joined us and the Troop and its activities as well as the Cubs.
Congratulations Clevedon Scout Group on a fine 1998!
