There is a variety of ways to participate in JOTI, and the choice of them will depend on the computer hardware, software, internet access and technical knowledge which is available to you and the members of your Group.
To put it in simple terms: you get a group of Rovers, Venturers, Scouts, Cubs, Keas, Leaders together in front of a computer that has internet access.
You send e-mails and reply to any that you get
You chat live to people on the other side of the world in a chat programme using Scoutlink Servers
You look at web pages by surfing Scout and Guide pages around the world
You take part in bulletin boards, discussion forums, news groups, ICQ, MSN
For the more technically advanced: Video/audio events, creating web pages and much much more...
Remember your JOTI event doesn’t have to be huge or flashy it may simply be the getting together at someone’s home where they have access to the internet. The beauty of the internet is that it can be as little or as big as you yourself wish it to be. You may find that by asking the youth as many as 65% will already be accessing the internet on a regular basis.
This activity could provide the opportunity of an international Scouting experience to Scouts who don’t normally have access to computers, internet or are disabled in some way.
